exciting new stuff

For those of you who didn't get a chance to read the Herald today, we are announcing a new addition to our seasonal all-Herald teams this year. For the first time we will be selecting a male player, female player, and coach of the fall season across all sports. The winners will be featured in a special sub-section on December 19 along with the announcement of all the all-star teams.
The nominees were announced today, as selected by the entire sports department staff, which will also select the winners. They were as follows:
Boys Player of the Fall (in no particular order)
Hami Kara (Wethersfield soccer)
Matt DesRoches (Wethersfield soccer)
Spencer Noon (Farmington soccer)
Nate Pagan (Newington football)
B.J. Aponte (New Britain football)
Josh Hudson (New Britain football)
Girls Player of the Fall
Desiree Pina (Plainville soccer)
Kelly Boudreau (Farmington soccer)
Katie Matthews (Rocky Hill cross country)
Taylor Friedmann (Berlin swimming)
Monika Drogosz (Farmington swimming)
Coach of the Fall
Bill Mella (Southington football)
Rich Heitz (Southington volleyball)
Sal Penta (Southington girls soccer)
Leszek Wrona (Plainville girls soccer)
Frank Cardona (Newington boys soccer)
Rob Jachym (Wethersfield boys soccer)
Steve Waters (Farmington boys soccer)
Steve Jarvis (Farmington girls soccer)

The reason for the large number of finalists for the coaching award was that there were simply so many impressive performances. While we had to limit it somewhat, it was tough to not consider all of the coaches on the final list.
Please share your thoughts. Who do you think should win each award? Do you have any particular stories or moments that impressed you for any of the athletes? Let me know what you guys think of the nominees. Only three will win, but all deserve incredible amounts of recognition for their hard work and success.
And be sure to check The Herald on December 19 to find out who wins.
